Thursday 6th March **** walks to the Pic de l’Aigle and the Cascade de la Queue de Cheval + travelling and sight seeing. Very sunny

Woke up to beautiful blue skies and the sun filtering through the snowy trees Had a leisurely breakfast before setting off up the snowy road. We were hoping nothing was coming the other way and luckily the only car we met was in a good place to pass! We stopped at the Pic de l’Aigle and had a great scramble up to that to look at the view. On the way down a girl was galloping a horse bare back across the snow and was having such a good time:) She was chatting to the horse the whole time and it was wonderful to watch. We drove a very windy route through the stunning snowy scenery and eventually stopped at Morez where we found a Lidl and stocked up. We drove on to a little ski resort called Rosset where they only have one very small drag lift with a small slope either side and some cross country pistes. There were a lot of kids having a great time with their parents and grandparents. We had our lunch watching them at around 3 p.m.! Amazingly we drove to a spot we have parked before – the Cascade de la Queue de Cheval. We stopped in the car park a few yards from our Autumn 2012 spot. We went on the walk to the top of the cascade where I took my shoes and socks off and waded over to where the water drops off the shear cliffs. Mag hates it when I do that as it is such a long drop and the water was freezing! It is quite a trek but it didn’t take us too long as we knew the way this time. Last time we also walked miles to the bottom of the cascade but as the sun was going down the top was enough for us today:)

Friday 7th March – Relax and travelling

We had a very lazy day:) We just relaxed overlooking the beautiful Jura from our parking spot on the edge of the cascades car park. We read our books and enjoyed the sunshine:) After a leisurely lunch we set out towards St. Claud and on towards the motorway, intending to head for Morillon but we were distracted (as usual) by a little place called Giron which is a tiny cross country ski resort in the middle of nowhere. We went into the shop about 4 o’clock to ask about hiring gear and will go back tomorrow morning. Then drove up to where the ski de frond pistes start and parked up in the car park. We chatted to the guy from the little office at the start and he said that the pistes weren’t very difficult or steep and that the weather was going to be just as lovely tomorrow:) We walked down the road about a mile to a huge white cross overlooking the village and beautiful mountains. Watched the sunset and walked back for a picky tea of all our goodies from Lidl:)
